THE WIND’S GATHERING APPLAUSE, 2025
University of Texas, Robert Rowling Hall, Austin, TX
Completed in 2018, UT’s Robert Rowling Hall contains a cascading atrium surrounded by active circulation. The Wind’s Gathering Applause formally centers within the cavernous space, capturing the light pouring in through the curtain wall. Lunging up from the ground floor, the piece’s 5,000+ kites create a variegated white cloud, punctuated by graphics depicting the region’s grasses and waterways, as well as over 400 unique graphics referencing the visual culture of the University, the city, and Texas as a whole. Faint traces of pastel yellows, blues, and pinks reference the region’s famous sunsets.
Our team thanks Art Strategies, Miles McEnery Gallery, the University of Texas, the McCombs School of Business, and QA Construction Services for the assistance in making this work possible.
